It’s Best to Leave Your Pet at Home
The Downtown Farmers’ Market continues to be a dog-friendly market, but we encourage you to leave your dog at home. The Market, at times, can get hot and very busy and is not the best place to bring a pet. Dogs are expected to adhere to our “Dog Etiquette Guidelines” for our four-legged friends to help ensure safety and health at the market. If patrons do choose to bring their dogs, we ask that they adhere to these six rules to make everyone’s market experience a pleasant one.
Dog Etiquette Guidelines
- Dogs must be under control on a short (3ft max) lead and at owner’s side at all times
- Dogs need to be kept away from produce, plants, prepared food products and other Market patrons.
- Dogs need to be courteous and able to socialize with people and other dogs to earn the right to be at the market.
- Be understanding – not everyone is a dog lover, and some fear dogs.
- Be prepared to clean up after your dog. Bring appropriate pick-up gear.
- The Downtown Farmers’ Market enforces The City of Des Moines laws regarding pets which include a leash law, clean up of droppings, current tags and a current rabies certificate. Find more city Animal Licensing and Regulations: 515-283-4500.
Market Management reserves the right to remove any pet owner and/or pet from the Market not able or willing to adhere to these rules.
